CHINS, Child in Need of Services is a term used to explain a youth who is: chronically missing school, receiving negative grades in school, running away from home or school, or resisting the reasonable rules of parents, police, or other authority. The CHINS Diversion Program prevents inappropriate or unnecessary court intervention on behalf of CHINS youth by applying a contract to divert youth and their families from the judicial system to preventative and community-based services.
